WPA 1500 - Technical Data Sheet

WPA 1500 is a next generation, high performance uncoupling and waterproofing sheet membrane for use under tile and stone installation in commercial and residential applications. WPA 1500 is specifically designed for use in areas where differential movement needs to be mitigated. WPA 1500 consists of a base layer of non-woven polypropylene fabric anchoring fleece, thermally welded to a high-density polypropylene, water impermeable core. The top layer consists of non-woven polypropylene fabric, thermally welded to the core, providing an excellent key for subsequently applied tiles adhesive systems. The WPA 1500 core is constructed with 3mm deep circular cavities, which create interconnected channels beneath the membrane and also provide the tile system with mortar columns which transfer loads to the substrate. As a result, the uncoupling function is achieved without sacrificing the ability of the system to accommodate and distribute point loads even in commercial, high traffic applications. WPA 1500 may be used as a stand-alone uncoupling system, an uncoupling and waterproofing system and/or a vapour management system, while providing a structurally sound substrate for tile or stone installations.

Recommended for:

  • Rooftops and balconies

  • Internal wet area floors

  • Sauna floors

  • Shopping centres

  • Areas subject to differential movement

  • Cracked substrates

  • Green screeds

  • Multi-function product

  • Excellent waterproofing properties

  • Effectively neutralises differential movement

  • Eliminates transmission of in-plane substrate cracks

  • Non-hazardous

  • Heavy duty

  • Light weight and easy to install

  • Fast track system

WPA 1500 is suitable for concrete, screeds, fibre-cement sheeting, wet area grade particle board, PAA certified structural and marine plywood and Scyon sheeting. Always contact the manufacturer if there is any doubt about the suitability of substrates.

All surfaces must be firm, clean, dry, sound and smooth. All laitance, grease, oil, wax, curing compounds, loose material, paint and any other contaminants which may reduce or prevent adhesion must be mechanically removed. Masonry surfaces must be pointed flush and surface defects repaired. Cement screeds must be cured for a minimum of 24 hours. New concrete must be cured for a minimum of 7 days.

Follow the priming instructions for the product selected to adhere WPA 1500 to the substrate.

Uncoupling and Vapour management

Cut WPA 1500 to the desired length, leaving no more than a 5mm wide gap between the product and the perimeter. Apply TPA Lite to cementitious substrates using a 6mm x 6mm notched trowel and place WPA 1500 into the wet adhesive. Alternatively, mix WPA 200 at a ratio of 8 litres of liquid to 10kg of powder and apply to the substrate using a brush and roller. Place WPA 1500 into the wet coat of WPA 200. Embed WPA 1500 into the adhesive system using a plastic trowel or a roller. Occasionally roll the membrane back to ensure 100% adhesive contact with the anchoring fleece. Apply additional adhesive if adhesive contact is insufficient. Install the adjacent sheet(s) by following the above instructions, butting the sheets closely together without overlapping.

Uncoupling, Vapour management and Waterproofing

Install WPA 1500 to the substrate following the above instructions. Mix WPA 200 at a ratio of 8 litres of liquid and 10kg of powder and apply the mixed product to the wall/ floor junction using a brush, ensuring the cavities in the WPA 1500 are filled. Immediately place WPA Joint Band into the wet WPA 200 and overcoat with an additional layer of WPA 200, ensuring the joint band fabric is completely embedded

into WPA 200. In order to waterproof the joint of the sheet, mix WPA 200 at a ratio of 8 litres of liquid to 10 kg of powder and apply to joint between two adjacent sheets with the flat side of a notched trowel to a width of approximately 200mm, ensuring the cavities of the WPA 1500 are filled. Immediately place WPA Fibre mesh 150 into the wet WPA 200 and with the flat side of a notched trowel apply pressure to the mesh to embed it in the WPA 200. Ensure that no folds or creases are formed.

Tile Installation

Tiles may be installed immediately after the installation of WPA 1500. Install tiles using TPA Lite or TPA 401M in accordance with the Technical Data Sheets.

Do not apply WPA 1500:

  • Over contaminated substrates;

  • If it is raining or if rain is imminent;

  • As an exposed wear surface. Tiles or stone must applied to WPA 1500

  • In areas subject to vehicular traffic.

  • Where ambient or surface temperatures are below 5°C or greater than 35°C;

  • To areas of continuous immersion such as swimming pools, ponds, water features or water tanks.

Clean Up

Tools and minor spills can be cleaned with water while WPA 1500 ancillary products are still wet.

WPA 1500 is available in 1m x 30m rolls.

One roll of WPA 1500 covers 30 m².

Shelf Life

24 months in a dry environment away from direct sunlight. If stored at high temperatures or humidity, the shelf life may be reduced.

WPA 1500 Ancillary Products

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Phone Australia 131 126).

Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if effects persist.

Skin Contact

If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation occurs seek medical assistance.

Eye Contact

If in eyes, wash out immediately with water. In all cases of eye contamination it is a sensible precaution to seek medical advice.

Rinse mouth with water. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water to drink. Never give anything by the mouth to an unconscious patient. If vomiting occurs give further water. Seek medical advice.

Notes to Physician

Treat symptomatically.

Prevent from entering drains or waterways. Absorb with sand, earth or spill control material. Collect in properly labelled containers for disposal in accordance with local statutory requirements.
