2. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
Statement of hazardous / dangerous nature
This material is hazardous according to health criteria of NOHSC Australia. Not classified as Dangerous Goods by the criteria of the Australian Dangerous Goods Code (ADG Code) for transport by Road and Rail.

If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Phone 131 126)
Inhalation
Remove patient from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
Ingestion
Rinse mouth with water. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water to drink. Never give anything by the mouth to an unconscious patient. If vomiting occurs give further water. Seek medical advice.
Skin Contact
If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation occurs seek medical assistance.
Eye Contact
If in eyes, hold eyelids apart and flush the eyes continuously with running water. Continue flushing until advised to stop by the Poisons Information Centre or a Doctor; or for at least 15 minutes and transport to Doctor or Hospital.

Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contamination. Shovel up and place in a suitable container for disposal.
Large Spills
Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contamination. Contain - prevent run off into drains and waterways. Use absorbent (soil, sand or other inert material). Collect and seal in properly labelled containers or drums for disposal. If contamination of sewers or waterways has occurred advise local emergency services
Precautions for clean-up crew
May be slippery when spilt. Avoid accidents, clean up immediately.

Handling
Employ safe lifting techniques. Avoid eye contact and repeated or prolonged skin contact. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place and out of direct sunlight. Store away from incompatible materials described in Section 10. Keep containers closed when not in use - check regularly for leaks. Prevent from freezing.

May cause irritation to the nasal passages.
Ingestion
May cause burning sensation and abdominal discomfort. Corrosive to
mouth and throat.
Skin Contact
May cause irritation to the skin.

May cause irritation to the eyes.
Chronic Effects
Long term exposure to high dust concentrations may cause changes in lung function. I.e. Pneumoconiosis; caused by particles less than 0.5 microns penetrating and remaining in the lung. Prime symptom is
breathlessness; lung shadows show on X-ray. There is some evidence that inhaling this product (in dry powder form) is more likely to cause a sensitisation reaction in some persons compared to the general population. There is limited evidence that, skin contact with this product is more likely to cause a sensitisation reaction in some persons compared to the general population. Respiratory sensitisation may result in allergic/asthma like responses; from coughing and minor breathing difficulties to bronchitis with wheezing, gasping.
