WPA Aqualay - Technical Data Sheet
WPA AQUALAY is an innovative, high performance, flexible, easy to install new generation sheet waterproofing membrane system. The sheet itself consists of an EVAC core with a laminated non-woven geotextile fleece on either side of the central core. This unique system allows surface finishes including tiles, screeds and topping to be installed within hours of the membrane installation. Due to the highly flexible central core it also provides anti-fracture properties by isolating overlaying finished substrates surface cracks and defects.
Internal wet areas, including Laundries, Toilets & Bathrooms
Balconies & terraces to be covered with tiles.
Anti-fracture system for internal tiling over concrete substrates.
Suitable for residential and commercial applications.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS
Fast installation and drying time.
Suitable for direct installation of toppings, screeds, acoustic underlays and ceramics.
Provides an anti-fracture system against surface cracks.
Suitable for both vertical and horizontal substrates.
Concrete & masonry block work.
Screeds and renders.
Wet area grade plasterboard, CFC and fibre cement sheeting, PAA structural and marine plywood & Particle board flooring.
Autoclaved aerated concrete panels (AAC).
All surfaces to be waterproofed must be firm, clean, dry, sound and smooth. All laitance, grease, oil, wax, curing compounds, loose material, paint and any other contaminants which may reduce or prevent adhesion must be mechanically removed. Masonry surfaces must be pointed flush and surface defects repaired.
New concrete must be cured for minimum 28 days. All concrete must be completely dry and primed with either WPA 360 water-based primer (Internal Only), WPA 460 or WPA 560 two-part water-based epoxy primer. Fibre cement and AAC flooring, must be primed with either WPA 460 or WPA 560 two-part water-based epoxy primer. Render and cement screeds must be cured for minimum 7days. Damp concrete, render or screeds must be allowed to thoroughly dry or primed with WPA 560 two-part water-based epoxy. (Refer to the WPA 560 TDS) Fibre cement sheeting, water resistant plasterboard, PAA structural and marine plywood, particle board and fibre cement flooring must be installed in accordance with the manufacturers’ installation requirements.
All critical areas including joints, junctions, penetrations, drainage outlets and cracks are to be detailed as described below.
Fill with WPA MS or WPA SPUR Sealant
Movement and expansion joints
Penetrations, pipes and drainage outlets
WPA Elastoband Collars & WPA MS or WPA SPUR Sealant
Note: Please refer to the WPA 200 membrane TDS for mixing and installation details.
Measure and pre-cut the WPA Elastoband for the wall/floor junctions. Apply WPA 200 by either brush or roller to the wall/ floor junction extending it 100mm either side of the junction. Embed WPA Elastoband into wet WPA 200 with a brush or appropriate plastic trowel/spatula, ensuring fabric edges are fully wetted out and removing air pockets and excess WPA 200. Ensure the rear rubber section of WPA Elastoband is not bonded to the substrate. At sections where WPA Elastoband is to be joined, a minimum 50mm overlap is required. Install WPA Elastoband Prefabricated internal and external corners. Pre-cut the WPA AQUALAY to the desired length, leaving no more than 5mm between the sheet edge and the horizontal or vertical junctions. Apply WPA 200 by either brush or roller ensuring 100% coverage. Position and unroll the WPA AQUALAY into the wet WPA 200 and using a plastic trowel or float, or a pressure roller, press the WPA AQUALAY firmly into the WPA 200, ensuring a firm bond is achieved by removing all air pockets and excess WPA 200. Sheets must be overlapped a minimum of 50mm. Seal all laps with WPA 200.
NOTE: For installation of the above system over particle board or plywood substrates use WPA MS Adhesive to adhere the WPA AQUALAY sheet prior to the installation of the WPA Elastoband. Install WPA Elastoband in accordance with the above instructions.
Pipe penetrations and tap fixtures will require the WPA AQUALAY to be cut to enable the sheet to be placed over the penetration or fixture. Measure and place a cut where the sheet will be positioned and install the sheet ensuring the WPA AQUALAY is firmly bonded around the penetration or fixture. Apply WPA 200 and install a WPA Elastoband collar and complete the installation with a liberal coat of WPA 200 to fully seal the overlapped section.
Installation of tiles and stone coverings
Ceramic tiles and stone must be installed with a minimum C2S1 tile adhesive, such as TPA 401M or TPA Light, in accordance with the Technical Data Sheets.

Safety Precautions for WPA AQUALAY Ancillary Products
Tools and minor spills can be cleaned with water while WPA 200 is still wet. Wet WPA MS adhesive can be removed with Handywipe cleaning cloths. Cured WPA 200 or WPA MS adhesive can only be removed by mechanical means.
If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre (Phone Australia 131 126).
Remove victim from exposure - avoid becoming a casualty. Remove contaminated clothing and loosen remaining clothing. Allow patient to assume most comfortable position and keep warm. Keep at rest until fully recovered. Seek medical advice if effects persist.
If skin or hair contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and flush skin and hair with running water. If swelling, redness, blistering or irritation occurs seek medical assistance.
If in eyes, wash out immediately with water. In all cases of eye contamination it is a sensible precaution to seek medical advice.
Rinse mouth with water. If swallowed, do NOT induce vomiting. Give a glass of water to drink. Never give anything by the mouth to an unconscious patient. If vomiting occurs give further water. Seek medical advice.
